Queensland is backing a national mental health survey for transport, postal and warehousing workers
WHS Queensland is supporting the Thriving Workplace Index, a survey for transport, postal and warehousing workers run by Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds in partnership with SuperFriend and supported by GT Insurance. It takes ten minutes to complete and closed at the end of August. What stands out is a state work health and safety regulator actively backing an industry-run national survey outside its own jurisdiction, rather than publishing its own standalone guidance.
Transport, postal and warehousing is a sector where psychosocial risk drivers, isolation, irregular hours, tight delivery windows, limited access to support while on the road, look meaningfully different from an office or even a construction site. Generic psychosocial guidance built around workplace-based hazards doesn't map cleanly onto a workforce that spends most of its working day alone in a vehicle or a depot. A sector-specific data set is genuinely useful here in a way it isn't for every industry.
For PCBUs in this sector, participating in named industry surveys like this one is a practical way to get ahead of guidance that hasn't been written yet. Businesses that can point to survey participation, and to controls that already reflect what the survey is trying to measure, isolation mitigation, fatigue management, access to support on the road, are in a stronger position when sector-specific guidance eventually lands than businesses working from generic office-oriented material.
WHS Queensland now has two sector-specific psychosocial surveys running in parallel this month, transport/postal/warehousing and construction, a shift from general guidance toward sector-by-sector data collection that other state regulators are likely to follow.
